Effective Mushroom Farming in the Nether

Mushrooms are versatile resources for potions and food, but they rarely and irregularly grow in the Nether. With the right strategy, you can still reliably collect large quantities of Nether mushrooms to secure your supplies.

How to build a mushroom farm in the Nether:

1. Choose a shady spot: Mushrooms grow best in dark places. Build your farm in an area with a light level of 12 or less, for example in a cave or under a dense ceiling of Netherstone.
2. Use suitable blocks: Nether mushrooms prefer to grow on Netherrack, Soul Sand, or Nylium. Especially Nylium (Crimson or Warped) promotes growth and makes mushrooms grow faster.
3. Place mushrooms strategically: Plant the mushrooms with enough distance (at least 2 blocks) from each other so they can spread. Mushrooms only spread to adjacent blocks if the light level is low.
4. Protect the farm from fire: Since the Nether is very fire-prone, surround the farm with fireproof blocks and avoid open lava sources nearby to prevent the mushrooms from burning.
5. Harvest regularly: Mushrooms grow slowly, but with patience you can harvest and replant them repeatedly. Use shears to quickly and efficiently break the mushrooms without delay.
