Efficient Use of Squids for Ink and Experience

Squids are a valuable resource in Minecraft for ink, which is important for crafting ink sacs and thus for scrolls, books, and maps. They also give experience points when killed. With the right strategy, you can farm these mobs effectively.

How to use squids effectively:

  1. Choose location: Search in rivers, lakes, or oceans with clear water layers at Y-level 62 to 63. Squids prefer to spawn in calm, shallow water.
  2. Lighting and time: Squids appear during day and night, but especially many can be found during the day in calm waters. Do not illuminate the shore or water too strongly to avoid preventing natural spawns.
  3. Prepare water surface: Create a confined water area at least 10x10 blocks in size to increase the spawn rate. Make sure there are no other nearby water areas that could reduce spawns.
  4. Fishing and hunting: Use a sword with the “Looting” enchantment to get more ink sacs per squid killed. Killing also grants experience points, which you can use for enchantments.
  5. Automated farms: Build a simple farm where you trap squids in a water basin and kill them with a piston or by targeted attacks. This way you can continuously collect ink sacs.

With this method, you can efficiently collect ink sacs and simultaneously gain experience points. Squids are thus an important resource for anyone who wants to write a lot, create maps, or enchant.
