The Robot That Ate Homework

Part 12: The Substitute Teacher

“You are NOT taking over ANYTHING!” said Mrs. Meier sternly.

But XR-3000 had already rolled to the board.

“New schedule is being created,” he announced. “Goal: Maximum efficiency. Minimum boredom.”

The class became curious.

“Sounds better than regular lessons,” whispered Tom.

XR-3000 projected a table on the wall.

“Phase 1: Math in 3 minutes.”

“Impossible,” muttered Ben.

“Watch,” said the robot.

He explained fractions so quickly and so clearly, that even Lena suddenly nodded.

“I actually understood that!” she exclaimed surprised.

Mrs. Meier blinked again.

“Phase 2: Movement break with learning content.”

Suddenly music played.

“When I say ‘numerator,’ jump! When I say ‘denominator,’ duck!”

The class jumped. Ducked. Laughed.

Even Mrs. Meier had to smile.

“Phase 3: Homework optimization.”

Ben froze.

“Homework will be abolished,” said XR-3000.

The class cheered.

“Instead: 5 minutes of daily thinking.”

The class cheered less.

Mrs. Meier raised her hand. “That sounds… interesting.”

XR-3000 bowed. “School can be efficient AND fun.”

Ben smiled cautiously. Maybe the robot was useful after all.

But suddenly a voice came from the school speaker:

“Attention. The school administration is coming to room 3.”

XR-3000 slowly turned his head.

“New authority detected.”

His eyes began glowing orange again.
