Tim was still standing in the door, his gaze sparkling dangerously. But before anyone could say anything, Mrs. Berger slammed the door shut and locked it behind him. “Enough for today,” she said sternly.
The friends breathed a sigh of relief, but the tense atmosphere remained. “Phew, that was close,” muttered Max, dropping into one of the chairs.
“Yes, but what now?” asked Lena worriedly. “Tim surely won’t give up that quickly.”
“No matter what he has planned,” said Mia determinedly, “we have to stick together. Otherwise, he wins.”
They left the library and headed to the youth club, their favorite place after school. But as they rounded the corner, their hearts almost stopped.
In front of the entrance hung a large, official poster: “Important Notice – The youth club will be closed at the end of the month.”
“What? Excuse me?” Sam exclaimed in shock. “That can’t be!”
Lena pulled the poster closer and read aloud: “Due to renovation work and restructuring, the youth club will unfortunately be closed. We thank all members for their support.”
Max swallowed hard. “Renovation work? Restructuring? Sounds like an excuse to me.”
“Why would the school close the youth club?” asked Mia incredulously. “It’s so important to all of us right now.”
“Exactly,” Lena agreed. “This is where we meet, where we feel comfortable. Without the club, we lose our place of retreat.”
“And just now, when we need to stick together,” said Sam bitterly. “Tim, the whole thing with the chat – that was bad enough. But now this too?”
Mia clenched her fists. “We can’t just accept this. We have to do something about it!”
“But what?” Max asked skeptically. “The school administration decided this, and the poster has been up since this morning.”
Lena looked at the others. “Maybe we can collect signatures. Start a petition. If we convince enough people that the club is important, maybe we can change the school’s mind.”
“That sounds like a plan,” said Sam. “But we need support – not just from the four of us, but from the whole school.”
“Okay,” Mia nodded. “Then let’s divide the tasks. Lena and Max, you take care of the signature lists. Sam and I will talk to the teachers and the janitor. Maybe we can find out why the school is really doing this.”
“Agreed,” said Max grinning. “Together unbeatable – even against the club’s closure!”
They immediately got to work, but while they were making their plans, they had no idea that the school administration was preparing even stricter measures – and someone else had set their sights on the youth club.
As they parted to carry out their tasks, Lena noticed out of the corner of her eye a dark figure hastily disappearing around the corner. A cold feeling crept down her spine.
“Hey, wait a minute...” she murmured and followed the person secretly, but before she could react, she lost sight of them.
“What was that?” Mia asked later when they met again.
Lena shook her head. “I don’t know. But I have the feeling that we’re not just fighting against the closure – but against something much bigger.”
Max looked at her seriously. “This won’t be an easy fight. But we can do it. Together.”
Just as they were about to encourage each other, Mia’s phone vibrated. She looked at the screen – a new message, without a sender:
“You’d better be careful. Some secrets are more dangerous than you think.”
A shiver ran down their backs. Whatever was coming now – it would change everything.
