The big day had finally arrived. Nervously, Lena, Max, Sam, and Mia sat in the auditorium, where the school assembly was about to take place. Students, teachers, and even a few members of the school administration were gathered everywhere. The friends whispered excitedly to each other as they sorted their documents and reviewed last notes.
“Okay, guys,” Lena whispered, “now it’s time: no mistakes. We have to present the petition clearly and convincingly.”
Max nodded, his voice trembling slightly. “I just hope people listen and don’t dismiss it right away.”
Sam grinned to lift the mood. “Hey, we’ve already proven that together we’re unbeatable. This won’t be a walk in the park, but we can do it.”
Mia looked at her phone, which she had tucked away in her pocket. The mysterious message from yesterday wouldn’t let her go. Who had sent her that warning? And why? She pushed the thoughts aside. Now was not the time for doubts.
The assembly began, and the principal stepped onto the stage. “Welcome, dear students, dear teachers. Today it’s about an important decision: the continuation of our youth club.” She glanced around before continuing. “I will now listen to the arguments.”
First, Lena stepped forward. “Hello everyone! We are here because the youth club is more to us than just a room. It is a place where we meet, can be creative, and simply be ourselves. If the club is closed, we lose an important part of our community.”
Her voice was firm, but the tension was palpable. A few students nodded in agreement. Max followed her. “We have collected a petition with over 300 signatures – from students, parents, and even teachers. That shows how important the club is to many.”
Sam added: “We have also made suggestions on how the club can be better organized and possibly save costs. We don’t want to cause problems, but offer solutions.”
Mia concluded the presentation: “We ask the school administration to give us a chance. The youth club is a safe place for all of us. Please support us!”
For a moment, there was silence. Then the principal began to speak: “Thank you for your words and your effort. I see that you are truly committed.” She turned to the assembled teachers. “We have to consider all aspects. The club costs money and resources that we might use differently.”
Suddenly, Jana spoke up, who had already been skeptical in the club room. “I think you’re painting it too nicely. Many in the class find the club boring or even annoying. Why should we keep it if not everyone likes it?”
The mood shifted a bit. Some students murmured in agreement, others looked uncertain. Lena bit her lip but didn’t want to give up.
Then it happened: The door to the auditorium opened with a loud bang, and Mr. Krüger entered. With a serious expression, he walked onto the stage. “I want to say something briefly.” The crowd fell silent.
“I have heard the students’ arguments and also the concerns of the school administration. But I believe that we would lose more here than we would gain. The youth club is an important place for social interaction and the development of the students.”
Some teachers exchanged surprised glances. Mr. Krüger continued: “I will personally advocate for us to find a solution that satisfies everyone.”
For a moment, everything seemed to get better. But then, in the middle of this charged atmosphere, Mia’s phone vibrated again. She looked at it secretly while Mr. Krüger spoke. The new message made her heart stop:
“Trust no one. Not even your ally.”
A cold shiver ran down her spine. She raised her eyes, but Mr. Krüger only smiled kindly, as if nothing had happened.
The assembly was not over yet, but suddenly an invisible tension hung in the air. Something had changed – and no one knew what would happen next.
