Hardly had Mr. Krüger left the auditorium when a strange unrest spread. Some students whispered, others looked at each other questioningly. Lena felt her heart beat faster, and she was sure: the resistance against the youth club was greater than they had thought.
“Did you hear that?” Max whispered, looking around nervously. “Jana really stirred things up. If this continues, we'll be pretty much alone.”
Sam frowned. “We knew not everyone was behind us. But I had hoped that at least the majority would support us.”
Mia remained silent and stared at her phone. The earlier message wouldn’t let her rest. “Trust no one. Not even your ally.” What was that supposed to mean? Who was playing a double game here?
“Hey, we can’t bury our heads in the sand now,” Lena said determinedly. “This is exactly the moment when we have to stick together. If we quarrel now, we definitely won’t win anything.”
Max nodded slowly. “You’re right. Maybe we need to talk more, convince more people. We can’t just give up because a few voices are against us.”
“But how?” asked Sam. “Jana already has a few people on her side. And some teachers don’t seem really convinced either.”
Mia looked up and looked at her friends. “Maybe we need to find out why the others are so skeptical. Maybe they have fears or bad experiences we don’t know about.”
“Good idea,” Lena replied. “And we should also see if there really is a traitor among us. The message was no coincidence.”
Max swallowed. “You mean someone from the school wants to sabotage us on purpose? That would be really nasty.”
“That’s exactly why we have to stick together,” Mia said firmly. “If we distrust each other, we’re easy prey.”
The friends felt the weight of the moment pressing down on them. But at the same time, their will not to give up grew. They were more than just a group of students – they were friends fighting together for something they believed in.
“So, what do we do now?” asked Sam, looking around as if waiting for inspiration.
Lena smiled slightly. “We talk to each individual. We listen, even if it’s hard. And we show that we’re not just fighting for the club, but for our community.”
“And we look out for each other,” Mia added, “because whoever wants to betray us, we will expose together.”
Just as they were about to set off to find their classmates, Mia’s phone vibrated again. This time it was a new message:
“Sometimes the greatest enemy is the one you least expect.”
Mia swallowed hard and looked at her friends. “Guys... we have a real problem.”
