The old creak of the heavy wooden door echoed through the damp air as Sam pushed it open. The narrow entrance led directly into a labyrinth of dark corridors and stone walls that stretched deep beneath the lighthouse. His heart pounded wildly as he took one step after another into the shadows.
“Sam! Wait!” A voice echoed behind him. But it was not the familiar voice of Lena or Max, but that of the stranger who had been following him. “You can’t escape here. The treasure belongs to all of us!”
Sam shook his head, pulled the flashlight from his backpack, and cautiously shone it into the darkness. “Not with me,” he muttered and plunged deeper inside. The air was heavy and smelled of mold and saltwater. Every step echoed loudly, and somewhere water dripped from the ceiling.
Back on the surface, Lena and Max had found each other again and now looked at the small entrance, half hidden by bushes and stones. “This must be the entrance to the labyrinth,” said Max, reaching for an old map they had pulled from the package. “It says here ‘Only those who stick together find the way.’”
“Great,” sighed Lena. “Sticking together sounds easier than it is when you’re surrounded by traps and puzzles in dark corridors.”
“Traps?” Max asked skeptically. “You do know this isn’t an amusement park, right?”
“I didn’t invent it,” Lena replied with a grin, pointing to a narrow passage. “Come on, we have no time to lose.”
Down in the labyrinth, Sam cautiously made his way forward. Suddenly something crunched under his foot – a loose stone slab! He jumped back, and a loud click was heard. “Damn, a trap!”
He turned around and saw a grate sliding up from the floor, blocking the corridor behind him. “Great, trapped,” he cursed quietly. But he knew he couldn’t give up. There had to be another way somewhere.
At the same time, Lena and Max entered the labyrinth entrance. As soon as they took a few steps, the daylight disappeared behind them, and the darkness closed in like a wall. “I hope you have better orientation than I do,” Max muttered, trying to read the map correctly.
“I looked at it,” Lena replied, “but this is a real puzzle. Look, there are signs on the walls everywhere, they could be clues.”
They proceeded cautiously, and suddenly a faint humming sound was heard. “What was that?” Max asked, stopping.
“No idea,” whispered Lena, “but we should be careful. Maybe it’s another trap.”
Meanwhile, Sam felt his way through a narrow corridor dimly lit by small torches. He felt sweat running down his back. “I have to get out of here and find the others,” he thought, “but first I have to lose that guy.”
Suddenly he heard footsteps behind him – this time faster, closer. He turned and ran, but the corridor suddenly branched into three directions. “Damn! Which way is right?”
Back with Lena and Max, the labyrinth began to change. The walls seemed to shift, and new corridors appeared out of nowhere. “This can’t be true!” Max exclaimed in shock. “This isn’t a normal cave, this is a living labyrinth.”
“Then we have to be smarter than it,” Lena said determinedly. “We must not get lost. Max, remember every step, we go together.”
They continued cautiously until they stood before a massive stone gate covered with symbols – constellations, sea creatures, and strange runes. “This must be the next puzzle,” Lena whispered, beginning to study the signs.
“If we open this gate, we get closer to the treasure,” Max said. “But what if it’s a trap?”
“Then we have to disarm it together,” Lena replied. “But we must not hesitate.”
Meanwhile, Sam finally had a moment to catch his breath. He looked around and discovered a small inscription on the wall: “Trust not every shadow that follows you.” A cold shiver ran down his spine. “What does that mean?” he muttered.
Suddenly he heard footsteps – this time not chasing, but approaching. He turned and looked into the eyes of... Max? “What are you doing here?” Sam asked surprised.
“I followed you,” Max replied, “we have to stick together, otherwise we’ll never make it.”
But before Sam could reply, the light flickered, and a voice sounded from nowhere: “You really think you can conquer the labyrinth? The game has only just begun.”
A shadow moved quickly through the corridor, and suddenly the door slammed shut behind them with a loud bang.
“Oh no,” whispered Lena, who had just joined them, “we are trapped. And I think we’re not alone...”
